Podium Finish at Stafford

Battling for Position at Stafford

Mad Motorsports took to the track at Stafford Motor Speedway Sunday night for the STPC Pro Cup Series. The team faced handling issues early, during practice. “The more fuel we put in, the worse it handled coming out of turn 4 in particular. We had turn 2 pretty well.” The MM car started the race in the top five, however, and quickly moved into 2nd place after the green flag waved. But it wasn’t fast enough to keep back a faster car. The first caution of many would open pit lane. “We had to run less fuel so we could keep the car safe in the corner, but the cautions were perfectly placed for us.” The race remained close, with several decent green runs until the end. The MM car would become involved in a late race incident. “We had just restarted from a yellow, and it was a jockey for position. I was high going into three and Trevor (Cameron) was low. Just before entry the spotter said clear inside, and my first instinct so late in the race was to secure the spot, but I should have known he wouldn’t have time to slow down for entry with me so close. It wasn’t a smart move on my part, and it took some good guys out.” Fortunately, the MM car had little damage from the wreck, and started in the back of the pack after the incident. After green runs and yellows, the MM car was able to race back into the top five, and hold the third position. “It was getting close, the leader and second place cars were even and fighting each other, I was almost on them. A few more laps and it would have been a three way fight.” Overall, the race was one of a few good races for the team since refocusing has taken place. Mad Motorsports now looks to tonights race at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the STPC Truck Series.
