Late Race Wreck Ends Night

In the final race for the week at Kansas Speedway, Mad Motorsports returned to the track with a new paint scheme. The BP Ford Fusion started 25th without qualifying in the Nascar Iracing Series, the official NASCAR sanctioned series at longer length than regular races. The car and sponsor that ran the BP sponsorship in 2005-2006 was among MM's most successful in the Piggz Morning series, among others. The goal in this race was different, that was to finish the 133 lap race. Some green flag runs were sprinkled into several caution flags at restart incidents were the theme of the night. Working fuel management to finish without stopping, should the race end in green conditions was the major preoccupation for the team during most of the race. "We didn't focus on track position until the second half" crew for the #10 BP Fusion said. "By then, the yellow runs made fuel and tire wear a moot point anyway. But the risk is always there to be left out to dry on tires and gas."

The car managed to miss several wrecks early, and mostly courteous driving meant 24 cars remained on the lead lap with nearly 30 laps to go. "We were running fast and dangerously close after a late restart, maybe under 30 to go." the driver reports, "Coming out of the front stretch two cars got together. I slowed and was getting it stopped when a car came from behind..passed me...and hit the wrecking cars. This caused them to slide high..right into my path. I hit them at 140 mph and the engine was killed." A disappointing end to an otherwise incident free event. The team was praised on showing, however, that it is up for a more full length feature. "Thus far in iRacing, we have run short official races and some Class A races which are longer. But these races are good practice to show off our strategy and endurance game as a team. I'm happy with what I saw tonight." says the team manager. Look for MM's BP car to start in the next few official series races of this kind.
