Mad Motorsports made its 2017 road debut in the Audi R8 LMS at Daytona International Speedway road course this week. The Audi rolled out in a field of multi-class cars. Totaling only a pair of off track incidents, the team claimed the races a success for the beginning of the Audi program. "The car felt really good, it took time to learn the breaking points...but the team really did a good job with the car." the driver said after Saturday's second race at Daytona. The MM Audi finished both 45 minutes runs with a healthy car and a near top-10. The team will be loading the Audi onto the truck for a trip to Mid-Ohio for it's next entry into the IMSA Sportscar Series. "These races are our gateway to getting the Class A license for road racing." team management said. The Class A license is something that has eluded the road program since joining iRacing in 2010. With a good start to the season, Mad Motorsports is on track to finally get the blue stripes. "We've always gone into re-boots with an over zealousness, but if we get it right this time, we may be rolling out in an official F1 series this year." MM staff said when asked about 2017 long term goals for the program. One thing is certain - however - the Audi is here to stay. "We looked at the Mercedes and BMW for that series. We really like the Audi and are glad to be running one of their racecars in the IMSA official series."
The team plans to run the car in this summer's endurance special events at Watkins Glen and Spa's Circuit.
