MAD Motorsports Finishes 18th In Worlds Premier Online Endurance Event
Mad Motorsports entered a new era of Sim Racing on Saturday June 10th, 2017. Since the team formed in 2005 for the purpose of racing in the Piggz Racing League on then, the best around, Papyrus Nascar Racing 2003 Season, there is one thing that has never happened. The team has never been focused on road racing, nor has it ever had a strong showing. Never before has it been possible for the team to consider a 24 hour event, until iRacing developed and released Le Mans and 24 hour racing servers.
Yesterday was a new beginning for the team. Mad Motorsports, for the first time ever, fielded a car in the 24 Hour of Le Mans event. The second of it's kind. The team set it's own personal record. Nearly 12 hours of non-stop cornering and work of one of it's newest and arguably best road cars; the 2017 Ford GTE with the new Kodak scheme, a throwback to the early days of team managers love of motorsports in the old Nascar Kodak car form the nineties. The race was uneventful for a large part, thanks to two drivers working long stints to keep the car clean. Minor spins and off course slips are par of the course at such a long event. Only one nearly fatal accident took the car off course for 20 minutes of repair. The team pulled the car just before 10:00 PM on the 10th while in 12th position. "We were pushing everything to the limit, equipment and driver stamina. It wasn't the right time to push all the way tonight. We want to keep the car intact for future events." team management said. "We knew we could pick back up in the morning."
And pick back up they did. The driver entered the car with two hours remaining and ran cleanly until the checkered flag flew. No positions were gained, but some loss was kept at bay. The team celebrated not from victory or exceptional display. The team celebrated the showing that they could, and did do what was only a sim racer's mere fantasy in 2005. Then the second first occurred; shortly after pulling the car off track, the team was notified that the Class A License for road racing was issued. For the first time since returning to racing with the iRacing service, the team was eligible to participate in the highest official series below the iRacing World Championship Series; The iRacing Grand Prix Series. Talk of purchasing the Mcclaren Formula 1 car was already happening, the addition of which would complete an already strong stable of new road cars with the Audi R8 and Ford GT.
