The Mad Motorsports road program rolled the still new 2017 Ford GTE car for the IMSA series last week. The car, featuring its new full season paint scheme debuted at Wakins Glen with tremendous speed and handling. The team started last, 36th, in the first running. "The car was cornering unbelievably well" the driver said post-race. "The setup and engine was really dialed in, It was just a matter of hitting the marks.
The car would run through the field and finish 11th place, on the heels of a last lap collision which damaged the car, but did not prevent from holding the 11th spot.
The team pulled the Audi from the hauler the following day for the Blancpain Sprint Series. Though less dialed in, the run would be considered a successful race completion and further laps logged in the primary car for the road program.
"We're happy with our road progress" team managers said. "The road program has long been neglected. We're putting a little more time this year in that than the ovals because of the learning curve. We know how to complete in ovals. Not so much on this side of racing."
This week will feature ovals primarily due to Daytona being run in all major cup series. The MM Audi will be on it's way to Circuit Giles-Villenevue in Canada, to begin practice for this weeks Blancpain race.
