MAD Takes 12th At Interlagos

Making Pass for 12th

Mad Motorsports returned to the road yesterday for the first 2018 start in the road program. The Target Audi R8 took to Interlagos in the Blancpain Sprint Series. The team started back of the pack and managed to pull through an early incident to take 12th place.

The field piled up early in the first lap causing most cars to stop and weave through the carnage. The Mad entry managed to moved through without contact, but was spun racing into a corner. "I thought I had the turn going in, the car was heavy on fuel and breaking in that corner was deceptive. I had to hit them early and hard to make it through and he must have thought I was yielding the corner, so he ran into me as I was making my apex. It was just a racing deal." The driver said of the wreck. The car was then hit by oncoming traffic, but at low speed. The Mad Audi would carry that damage unrepaired throughout the 40 minute event. After a late stop for fuel, the car would come out in 15th. With two laps to go the Mad driver managed to race through others making stops and make a last lap pass to take 12th overall. "We're real pleased with how this went. We were probably one of the slowest cars out there, and least practiced, but with clean driving and some strategy we'll take 12th from a 24th starting position."

The road program has not announced any world tour event starts for the year after missing the 24 Hours of Daytona. A Bathhurst start is not entirely ruled out, however.
